The Alchemy Socks are knitted from the toe up with multiple options available for the toe and heel constructions to ensure a custom, perfect fit. The pattern gives you the chance to Choose Your Own Sock-Venture as you follow the pattern, directing you to knit either a Wedge Toe or Barn Toe, and either a Heel Flap and Gusset or a German Short Row Heel.

Usually when I name my knitting patterns, the idea comes while I’m knitting the pattern, but with these socks, I knew what I wanted to call them as soon as I picked up the yarn (CoopKnits Socks Yeah! in Citrine). It’s such a gorgeous, deep gold hue that the name popped into my head right away and I tried out half a dozen stitch patterns until I found the perfect match.

Defined literally, alchemy is the practice of turning base metals into gold. It may exist only in fantasy, but more broadly it’s used to describe the ineffable process of transforming the banal into the magical. And put like that, what is knitting if not a sort of alchemy?

Size:
Medium: 18cm/7in

Yarn: Fingering weight – 50-70g

The sample is knit in CoopKnits Socks Yeah! in Citrine.

Needles: The pattern is written using the magic loop method, but can be worked using double pointed needles or small (23cm/9in) circulars, depending on your preference. You’ll need 2.25mm needles, or size required to meet gauge. If you are a tight knitter, you may want to switch to needles one size larger to knit the cuff.
